Child Dedications



WHAT IS CHILD DEDICATIONS?

A child dedication is the act of giving back to god the gift He has given you as parents. It is an act of worship, thanksgiving, dependence, trust, and commitment. The practice of child dedication has been modeled throughout the Bible.


Biblical Examples:

The Israelites brought their 8-day-old children to the priest for blessing. Hannah (1 Samuel 1:24-28) brought her long-awaited son Samuel to the priest Eli to dedicate him to the Lord.  Mary and Joseph brought baby Jesus to the temple for his dedication.


WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BAPTISM & CHILD DEDICATION?

At Coast Hills Church, we recognize that salvation only comes to a child through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  It is not passed on to a child through dedication. Parents make a covenant to raise their children by modeling Godly principles with the desire that one day, their children will receive Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.  A child’s first glimpse of spiritual community is in their own home. As parents, you are the first impression of God that your child gets.


Baptism is reserved for an older child up to adults who accept Jesus Christ as their Lord & Savior, and commit their life to Him by admitting they are a sinner.  Click here if you are interested in Baptism.


WHAT IS A CHILD DEDICATION SERVICE LIKE?

The Child Dedication experience provides parents of infants and young children a formal, public opportunity to dedicate their children to the Lord. During the weekend service of your choice, families will join you publicly on stage while Senior Pastor Ken Baugh takes a moment to pray for each individual child.  Each parent affirms their own faith in Jesus Christ and promises to model and teach their faith to their children. At the same time, the church body agrees to walk alongside parents and hold them accountable.


By dedicating your child you are publicly affirming your desire as a parent to submit your child to God’s protection and guidance. You are saying that you want God’s perfect will to be established in the raising of your child. As a parent, you are an instrument that God has chosen to be His tool to express His love, His values and His character.
