"To equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ" —Ephesians 4:12-13

What Is Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry is a volunteer care giving ministry.  Stephen Ministers are equipped through 50 hours of training in Christian care-giving.  They provide confidential one-to-one Christian care to individuals in our congregation and community who are experiencing difficulties in their lives.

How It Began

Stephen Ministry is a nonprofit Christian education organization founded in 1975.  Today more than 10,000 congregations from more than 150 denominations are involved in Stephen Ministry.  There are churches with Stephen Ministry in all 50 states, 9 Canadian provinces and 21 other countries.  Over half a million people have served as Stephen Ministers since 1975.

Need For Stephen Ministry

One of the greatest frustrations that churches have is seeing people slip through the cracks because they didn’t receive care in their time of need.  The biblical answer to this dilemma is for pastors and teachers to equip God’s people for caring ministry.
